Papers, 1835-1910.

Papers, 1835-1910, containing correspondence, financial records, labor contracts, school compositions, a diploma, and a certificate of confirmation. The bulk of this collection is financial records pertaining to the operation of Hall's plantation. These chiefly involve the sales and purchase of supplies, slaves, and cotton. Some receipts are for Hall's services as a physician. The papers also contain family letters, chiefly from 1861 to 1862 from Hall's mother and letters from Juliet Anderson, whom he married. In addition, there is correspondence from General Braxton Bragg and from Bragg family members, who were Hall's cousins. Requests and receipts for copies of the Alabama State Constitution, 1874-1876, from the Ala. Secretary of State R.K. Boyd are also enclosed. Hall's connection to Boyd is unclear. The legal records subgroup contains one folder of impressment requests and receipts for slaves and supplies from Hall's plantation during the Civil War. Wills, deeds, bond agreements, and post-Civil War labor contracts are also included. The school and religious records subgroup consists of school compositions, Hall's 1852 diploma from St. James the Apostle College in Maryland, and an 1871 certificate of confirmation for Shirley Bragg.
